Bio
I'll photograph anything, provided I find it interesting or beautiful.
I shoot predominantly Weddings for a living, and a bit of everything for pleasure.
I have a passion for using available light only, and for taking photographs which are timeless. By that I mean I prefer to exclude any artefacts which date the photograph, such as modern fashions, vehicles, and street furniture.
We own a large motorhome ( "the bus" ) which enables us to explore and then stay in some particularly photogenic places.
My first camera was a Zenith EM, "Moscow 1980 Olympics" special edition, bought for my 18th Birthday. It had the benefit of a built in exposure meter, and not a lot else. The meter was above the lens, not through the lens, so i learnt the old way first. I moved through various Pentax and Canon 35mm SLR cameras, then onto medium format 6x6 TLRs from Yashica and then Mamiya, where I finally found the technical quality I wanted.
I was shooting professional Weddings and Press work, with no auto focus, no auto exposure, and no image playback. You learn to do that on autopilot, and then you can concentrate on the subject.
I shoot mostly full frame digital nowadays, although there is always a Panasonic bridge camera in the car boot.
My background in the fully manual world still has a part to play, mainly helping me know when the newer assisted stuff is appropriate and when it isn't.
