Bio
I am purely an amateur photographer. I have a BFA but it was in Painting, not photography. I take lots of pictures, and while I do have real cameras, I find that the best camera is the camera I have on me: my iPhone, and I enjoy pushing the limitations of it. I also use a Shiftcam lens for the phone. I find it very handy, and am really fond of my macro lens...
When I take pictures for ME, in order to be creative, I am usually drawn into things because of texture. That is what really seems to catch my eye: rust, cracked paint, driftwood, weathered wood, stuff like that. Stuff I stumble upon usually. Natural colors and perspective. Minimalism. Abstraction. Trying to capture that stuff is what drives me.
I also like candid photography of people (I would say street photography, but "street" and rural Newfoundland do not quite mix). It usually ends up being photos of children because I am out and about with my youngest daughter a lot and I tend to be surrounded by kids! Though my interest is not limited to my kids.
Other than cropping (gotta get my rule of thirds if I can), and the occasional shift to B and W, or a desaturation, I try not to doctor my photos too much(and I have pretty serious Photoshop skills). In 99% of the cases, what you see is what I captured.
After living for 20 years in Toronto, I find it very fortunate to live in rural Newfoundland. I keep finding so much to photograph just outside my door...
