Martyn Howgill

I was born after WWII in East London. As a boy I won a prize for a b&w shot of Wells Cathedral in Somerset and have been enamored with photography since! Finished with "A-Levels" at Leyton County High School for Boys, I was offered and accepted an athletic scholarship to New Mexico State, where I was seduced by the Land of Enchantment!

Like most adventures, my life then took many twists and turns. I went home to study economics and philosophy at Sheffield. I returned to the USA and took my bachelor's degree at Fort Hays (Kansas) State University. I earned my master's in journalism at Missouri, played on the 1972 British Olympic basketball team and became a US citizen.

Along the way I embraced marriage, launched fatherhood, and earned bachelors and masters degrees at Fort Hays State University and the Mizzou J-School. For 50 years, I careened through a career with little time to shoot photos—until retirement.

Now, I find myself enchanted again by the magic of photography: to see a picture, capture an image effectively, develop its potential, and produce a photo worthy of your interest. The photography process is a joy--one I encourage you to share.
