Always a lover of nature and the outdoors, Jamie was raised in the country in Whitefish, a small town outside of Sudbury, Ontario, Canada.
Jamie began practicing photography in 2008 and advanced to using a Canon 7D body and Canon 100-400mm Lens in 2014, a great combination for capturing wildlife. He still uses the 100-400mm lens, but has upgraded to the Canon 6D full-frame body to enhance the quality and details in his photos. Jamie has recently become fascinated with macro photography and has added the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM Lens to his arsenal.
Jamie believes in ethical and respectful wildlife photography and does his best to minimize his impact on wild subjects when out in the field. He recognizes, however, he is only human and vulnerable to lapses in judgement, but constantly learns from his mistakes.
Even though Jamie uses a good zoom lens, he prefers getting as close to his wildlife subjects as possible in a safe and unobtrusive manner. He feels more of a connection with the animals by quietly and respectfully embedding himself in their realm. For Jamie, photography is not just about getting great photos, but being "in" the environment - seeing, listening, feeling everything the wildlife does. Using hip-waders to enter in a river or lake, trudging through deep snow for kilometers and patiently waiting in silence in -25 degrees Celsius are all part of the process.
